Court Fee Calculator (India)

Estimate the court fee payable when you file a suit or petition in India. Pick the court or forum and enter your claim or suit value to get an indicative fee — computed from the Court Fees Act 1870 (as amended by states) and forum-specific rules for Consumer Commissions, NCLT and DRT. Treat every figure as a planning estimate, not the final assessed fee.

Indicative court fee
₹16,100

Indicative ad-valorem estimate using a simplified progressive slab; the exact slab is set by the relevant state Court-Fees Act.

How this is calculated

Court fees fall into two families. For ordinary civil suits in the District, High and Supreme courts, the fee is ad valorem — it rises with the value of the claim under a slab table set by the state Court-Fees Act. This calculator applies a simplified progressive slab and an indicative statutory ceiling.

For specialised forums the fee is fixed by band: Consumer Commissions charge a flat fee per value band under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 (nil up to ₹5 lakh), NCLT charges a fee per application type under the NCLT Rules 2016, and the DRT charges ₹12,000 up to ₹10 lakh plus ₹1,000 per additional lakh (capped at ₹1,50,000) under the DRT (Procedure) Rules.

  • Ad-valorem slab (indicative): 5% up to ₹10k, then 4%, 3% and 2% on higher bands, capped at ₹3,00,000.
  • Consumer, NCLT and DRT fees follow their own statutory schedules, not the ad-valorem slab.

Sources & legal basis

  • Court Fees Act, 1870 and the corresponding state amendments / state Court-Fees Acts (ad-valorem suit fees).
  • Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and the Consumer Protection (Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions) Rules, 2020 — filing-fee bands.
  • National Company Law Tribunal Rules, 2016 — Schedule of Fees; IBC application fees.

  • Supreme Court Rules, 2013 — court-fee provisions for petitions and appeals.

Court-fee slabs are governed by the Court-Fees Act and each state’s amendments, and differ between forums. Treat this result as an indicative estimate and confirm the exact fee for your court with the registry or your advocate before filing.

Frequently asked questions

No. It is an indicative estimate. Court fees are fixed by each state’s Court-Fees Act and by forum-specific rules, and the final fee is assessed by the court registry. Confirm with an advocate before filing.

Court fees are a state subject. Each state amends the Court Fees Act 1870 with its own slab table, minimums, maximum ceiling and exemptions, so the same claim value can attract different fees in different states.

No. Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, complaints valued up to ₹5 lakh before the District Commission carry no filing fee. Higher value bands attract a fixed fee.

For a Debts Recovery Tribunal application the fee is ₹12,000 for debt up to ₹10 lakh, plus ₹1,000 for every additional ₹1 lakh (or part), subject to a maximum of ₹1,50,000.
